PROFESSOR Mburumba Kerina, the only man in recent history that can claim that he named a country, was buried in the same grave as his late mother, Magdalena Getzen, in the Khomasdal Cemetery.
The funeral brings an end to the controversial debate amongst various traditional groupings of the Ovaherero people over whether he should be buried at the Chiefs’ Shrine in Okahandja, as was his wish, or in another cemetery across the street from the venerated chiefs of yesteryear.
The funeral service in the Khomasdal Cemetery grants Professor Kerina well deserved rest almost a month after he passed away due to complications of COVID-19.
