103 in ICU

A TOTAL of twenty-eight people on Monday succumbed to COVID-19, whilst 103 are currently fight for their lives in Intensive Care Units.
Namibia, which this week confirmed the more transmissive Delta variant, continues to record above 1,000 positive cases per day, with a total of 1,435 new COVID-19 confirmed cases recorded on 5 July 2021.
Of all the confirmed cases, only nine reported to have received only one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Windhoek district recorded the highest number of deaths, with 18 deaths in total,
followed by Swakopmund with three deaths, while Opuwo and Katima Mulilo recorded two deaths each.
The two deaths in Katima Mulilo are home deaths.
Rehoboth, Onandjokwe and Okakarara districts reported one death each.
None of those who died were fully vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services further stated of the Oshana and Erongo regions reported the highest number of cases, with each of those regions accounting for 18% of the confirmed cases.
Among the confirmed cases are 216 learners, 28 teachers and 17 students.
Frontline workers continue to take up a bulk of infections, with a total of 50 healthcare workers from different health care facilities tested positive, of which 37 are from Oshakati district alone.
