A WINDHOEK family is upset at the fact that the body of their 97-years-old father, who died weeks ago, still has not been cremated despite being on the list.
His daughter, who preferred to remain anonymous, said her father died on 13 June 2021 due to COVID-19.
Describing the experience as a traumatizing one, the woman said her father was initially misdiagnosed with bronchitis by a medical doctor she claims insisted it wasn’t COVID-19.
“We finally got my father tested and got his positive results a day before he passed on. I was then informed that the body couldn’t be removed by a funeral parlor. As a family we decided that cremation was the better option and that he would be cremated by City of Windhoek. We’ve been trying to find out when the cremation would take place and it’s been a traumatic experience because we don’t know what condition the body is in and we’ve seen the state of the mortuary on social media. It’s absolutely horrible,” she said.
The daughter added that the mortuary is stacked so high, bodies are lying in rooms and passages.
“We were told there’s only one cremation machine and it can only cremate six bodies in a day to prevent it from overheating and breaking,” she explained.
