THE Directorate of Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry has detected an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) at the Kasenu village in the Zambezi Region.

In a statement the Ministry says that the directorate has declared areas within a 30-kilometre radius of the affected village as controlled areas following the outbreak.

The government has banned the sale and movement of cattle into and out of parts of the northern Zambezi Region following the outbreak.

As part of the control measures implemented, all permits allowing the movement of cattle into and out of the controlled areas have been cancelled.
