AS Namibia enters the winter season at the start of the second semester, at least eight schools in the Khomas Region have been forced to go into lockdown due to increasing COVID-19 cases.
Executive director on the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp said the number is expected to increase in coming days to control the further spread of the virus.
“In the past 10 days and just as schools reopened, around 165 teachers tested positive and were sent home to isolate themselves,” said Steenkamp.
A large number of learners have also been infected with COVID-19, forcing many schools in the Khomas Region alone to go into complete lockdown.
It is not yet clear if a decision by government will soon be taken to completely suspend face-to-face classes for all Namibian schools in the wake of increasing infection cases.
