THE Namibian police in the Ohangwena Region is investigating cases of impersonations of police officer and theft of a motor vehicle after five men, while pretending to be undercover law enforcement agents, stopped and searched the taxi of a 29-year-old man who was carrying N$120 000 in cash.
The incident took place at the Eenhana’s OB David location at around 16:00 Friday.
The suspects reportedly instructed the victim to drive, under their guard, to the Ondangwa police station after finding in his possession a large amount of money.
Along the road they, however, changed their minds and ordered him to stop near the Jan Japan Motors along the Ondangwa-Ongwediva main road.
It is alleged that the victim was then cleared of any wrongdoing and released, but the fake cops kept the money, saying that the victim would eventually be summoned to the police station to collect his money.
The second incident happened at around 22:00 that same day when three unknown suspects wielding a pistol, shot and injured the driver of a white Toyota Avensis.
They proceeded to push him out and then drove away with his car.
The victim was injured on the forehead and lower jaw.
He was admitted in the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in a stable condition.
The stolen vehicle is valued at N$60,000 and has not yet been recovered.
