God created Adam and Eve, says Swapo Elders Council

THE Swapo Party’s Elders Council (SPEC) has come out guns blazing against suggestions that same-sex marriages in Namibia should be legalised, arguing that God created Adam and Eve.

The Swapo Party Elders Council and the Swapo Party Women’s Council issued a join statement today reminding African youths to remember and maintain African culture, traditions and to avoid engaging in cynical activities that are opposed to African norms.

“A nation without culture and norms is like a tree without roots. People from other cultures will impose their bad culture to our nation. For example in Namibia, we understand that some people are demanding laws that would be made to protect the LGBTQ+ community. God had created Adam and Eve (man and woman) only” said SPEC Secretary, Mukwaita Shanyengana.

He further added that statistics show that 90% of the Namibian population is Christian, and therefore, practicing sodomy in Namibia is unacceptable.

“People of Namibia shed their precious blood to liberate this country. Therefore, there are priority things and projects in the Swapo manifesto that need to be implemented by the Swapo Party led government, like youth employment, the development of the country in various sector infrastructure and so forth, in order to improve the living standard of our people. We therefore, as elders of our people, support the view of the Swapo Party Youth League that says members of parliament should discuss bread and butter issues,” Shanyengana said.

He further noted that the Founding Father, Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the first president of Namibia, cannot be forced to apologise for homophobic comments made whilst he was president, as has been requested by some activists.
