MANY residents of northern Namibia were surprised when rain suddenly started falling over a wide area early on Sunday morning.
Farmers that have given up on bringing in a good crop this year now have new hope after the rains.
The last time any rain fell was at the end of February this year.
One farmer, Johannes Victory, said the rain he received is very good and it came at the right time.
“Some of our crops like the mahangu was starting to dry out because of the rain staying away. It is God’s grace that the rain fell because now we will be able to feed our families,” he said.
Good rains were reported over areas such as Outapi and Okalongo in the Omusati Region. Rain also fell in the areas of Ondangwa, Onhuno, and Omalyata.
The Namibia Meteorological Service predicted that moderate to heavy rains can be expected in northern Namibia. The Kunene, Otjozondjupa, and Erongo regions can also expect some rain to fall.
According to the meteorological service, partly cloudy and hot weather conditions can be expected in the north with a few isolated thundershowers elsewhere. The western side of Namibia can also expect partly cloudy and warm weather conditions with some isolated thundershowers.
Residents at the coast can expect cloudy and mild to hot weather conditions with isolated showers over some parts while sunny weather can be expected over the rest.
