A HEAD-ON crash late on Tuesday has claimed the lives of drivers 30-year-old Jesia Shikongo Shikongo and 34-year-old Petrus Ekandjo Nekwaya.
The accident along the Outapi-Tsandi main road also left two passengers injured.
Omusati Regional Commander Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the incident occured at about 22h40 at the Ondalaye location in the Outapi Constituency.
Shikongo added that the two drivers – one of a Toyota mini bus Quantum and the other of a Toyota 2.0 VVTI pickup – were travelling in opposite directions along the Outapi-Tsandi road when the collision occurred.
“While at Ondalaye location, one of the drivers presumably lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle,” he said.
He noted that both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and two passengers were seriously to moderately injured and were rushed to the Outapi State Hospital.
Shikongo stated that each drivers only had only passenger in their vehicle.
He identified the passangers as Shanyenge Johannes, 30, and Selma mwaala Simon, 28.
Shikongo added that the deceased bodies were taken to the Okahao Police mortuary for postmortem, while reckless and negligent driving has been cited as the possible cause of the accident.
Shikongo, however, stated that the exact cause of the accident will form part of police investigations.
