KAANDUKA Samuel David, a 12-year-old boy, drowned while swimming in a pond at Oshitukafitu village in the Omusati Region.
The incident happened at around 10:00 on Easter Monday.
According to the police report, the deceased drowned after entering the deep side of a water pond located in his parents’ field.
Omusati Regional Commander Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the deceased was a grade 5 learner at the Omunyele Combined School.
He was left home with two siblings after his grandmother went to church.
Shikongo stated that the deceased, along with his younger siblings, left the homestead for a swim in the pond.
“The siblings rushed to the neighbour’s house and alerted them about the drowning incident,” he said.
He added that the neighbours found David’s lifeless body at the bottom of the pond and retrieved it before alerting the police.
Shikongo indicated that the deceased’s body is being kept at the Outapi district hospital mortuary awaiting further transportation to Okahao Police mortuary for autopsy.
