Man dies while catching fish

WITH the good rains that continue to fall in the northern areas of the country, tragedy constantly looms closer and the Namibian police force continues to strongly warn people to be wary of water in their surroundings.

Tragedy was reported in the Omusati region after a 30-year-old man, Moses Belena Shanyengange, drowned at Omaumba earth lake while catching fish on Saturday evening.

According to regional investigation coordinator, deputy commissioner Malakia Simaho, the incident occurred around 18:30 at Omaumba village.

“It’s alleged that the deceased drowned in water while he was catching fish and his body was only retrieved on Monday by divers of the Special Reserve Force from Oshakati,” he said.

Simaho noted that no foul play is suspected.

An autopsy will, however, be done to determine the actual cause of death, while police investigation into the matter continues.

Shanyengange’s death by drowning comes two weeks after a similar incident was reported in the region.

In that incident, the 35-year-old Eliakim Hambelela Amutenya drowned at Omatando village in Anamulenge Constituency while crossing a water pan.
