Driver avoids donkeys, strikes a pedestrian

THE Namibian Police in the Omusati Region is investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of Tobias Nangolo, a 33-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle at Egululyeengumba village on the main road between Oshakati and Okahao on Friday evening.

 

It is alleged that the 46-year-old driver of a silver Honda station wagon (N 13384 ND) was driving from Oshakati towards Okahao at around 20:30 when he noticed three donkeys on the road. He veered off in order to avoid bumping the donkeys but in the process, he struck Nangolo who was walking behind the donkeys. Nangolo died on the scene of the accident.

 

The deceased was originally from Oluvango village, Anamulenge constituency.

The police in Omusati are also investigating cases of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving a motor vehicle without a driving license following a fatal accident on the gravel road between Omapopo and Onaanda on Thursday evening.

 

It is alleged that a 26-year-old unlicensed driver of a white Toyota Hilux (N7470EN) lost control over the vehicle while in a sharp curve. The vehicle overturned.

 

One passenger, Levi Vatilifa (48), died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.

 

According to the police, those involved in the accident are construction workers currently renovating the hostel of the Negumbo Senior Secondary School.
