WHILE people were busy observing Easter Sunday, a drunken driver, who was speeding, crashed into a parked car and through the boundary wall of a house near the old Single Quarters in Katutura.
According to several eyewitnesses, the green bakkie was coming down the street at a very high speed.
The crash damaged the parked car and also destroyed the boundary wall. The flying bricks from the wall damaged the house and caused some windows to break where a family was enjoying their Easter Sunday.
The incident occurred on Shanghai Street near the Single Quarters at around 17:30 on Sunday afternoon and left residents shocked.
The owner of the severely damaged Nissan March expressed her trauma and that of the kids that were in both the house and street. She further stated that they are, however, grateful because no casualties were reported.
“We were just in the house while getting my hair plated. My car was parked along the road and many people, including the kids, were all around here. That bakkie came at a very high speed and hit my car. Both cars jumped and crashed into the wall,” she said.
The three men that were in the bakkie, including the driver, were under the influence of alcohol and were not a state to operate a vehicle on a public road.
However, all the occupants of the bakkie escaped unharmed, with only minor injuries.
