THE Namibian Police in the Oshikoto Region has arrested 69 illegal immigrants from Angola at the Oshivelo check-point in the week running up to the Easter weekend.
Inspector Victor Mbonabi, the commander of the Oshivelo police station, said they started apprehending all Angolans without valid travel documents from Monday last week.
“After they were arrested we sent them to the immigration control officers at Omuthiya that are now busy with deporting the illegal immigrants back to their country of origin,” he said.
Mbonabi stated that they are hard at work to ensure that all foreigners without proper travel documentation are apprehended and sent back to their countries of origin.
He also indicated that a large group of illegal immigrants were travelling to Kombat in the Otjozondjupa Region to look for employment in the charcoal manufacturing industry.
Mbonabi warned farmers to refrain from harbouring foreigners without any valid immigration documentation as cheap labour.
