THE health ministry called on additional eligible population groups, and especially frontline workers in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, and Windhoek, to get vaccinated with the SinoPharm vaccine donated by China and the Covishield donated by India.
Frontline workers include correctional staff members, police officers, immigration officials, intelligence officers, officials at entry ports, diplomats and journalists, cross border transport operators, and people involved in the distribution of grants have been added to the target list.
The Executive Director of the health ministry, Ben Nangombe in a statement said that the Covishield vaccine, which is available in limited doses is prioritized for persons with co-morbidities while SinoPharm is prioritized for persons without those pre-existing clinical conditions and those who fall within the age category of 18 to 59.
Although vaccination is voluntary, Nangombe has called on institutions to submit lists of their frontline workers that are eligible for vaccination, to the various vaccination points at the ministry’s hospitals.
Vaccination points are situated at the Katutura State Hospital, Windhoek Central Hospital, Swakopmund State Hospital, and Walvis Bay State Hospital.
