A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 42-year-old man at Okaphoto renting rooms in the Onandjamba settlement last month.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo said that the crime was committed on the 20th of February and that suspect was only arrested on Wednesday this week.
Shikongo explained that there are cases where investigations have to be carried out first to ascertain a crime has been committed rather than arresting straight away.
At the time of the incident, the suspect allegedly found the victim on her way home from the hospital where she was attending classes.
“While speaking to her, the suspect asked the victim to go and open his room and to bring something for him. He followed her to the room, then closed the door, removed his clothes, pushed the victim on the bed and removed the victim’s clothes, and raped her,” he said.
Shikongo noted that a rape case was registered and that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
In a separate case, a 36-year-old man was arrested for raping a domestic worker at Iilambo village on Monday afternoon.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the incident occurred sometime around 13:00 and that a case of rape was registered shortly afterward.
Shikongo stated that the suspect, who is a neighbour of the victim, took his phone to be charged in the victim’s house.
“The suspect then pushed the victim into the room and raped her,” he said.
Shikongo said the suspect is expected to appear before Okahao Magistrate’s court on Friday.
