THE 17-month-old Fransina Iita tragically drowned in a water container at Omaambo village in the Elim constituency on Friday.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the incident occurred at around 16:50.
Shikongo indicated that the deceased was left playing with other kids in the house while the mother was taking a bath.
“It is alleged that the deceased then drowned in a water bucket made out of a 25-litre plastic container in which the family normally wash their dishes,” he said.
Shikongo noted that the exact circumstances leading up to the tragedy are not clear.
“The full extent of the tragedy only unfolded after the baby’s mother finished her bath. When she asked the other children where the little girl was, that they told her that they did not know,” he said.
The frantic mother searched for the baby only to discover her dead child in a water bucket.
