SEVEN people were arrested during focussed operations by the drug law enforcement subdivision of the Namibia Police over the past week.
According to the arrest reports provided by the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the most recent arrest was made during the early hours of Sunday morning.
He said a 23-year-old man was arrested at Erf number 3, Kalahari Street, Narraville when officers found four bags of dagga in his possession.
The contraband in the four bags weighed 210 grams and is valued at N$10 500.
The suspect is set to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession and dealing in illicit drugs on Monday.
On Saturday morning officers arrested a 23-year-old man in Independence Street in the Mondesa neighbourhood of Swakopmund after officers found him in possession of ten grams of dagga.
According to the report, the contraband is valued at N$500 and the suspect is due to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession.
A 25-year-old resident of the Tutaleni neighbourhood of Walvis Bay was arrested and charged with dealing in illicit drugs when drug law enforcement officers found 870 grams of dagga in his house.
The arrest was made at house 6269 in Johanna Benson Street on Thursday.
The dagga found in the suspect’s possession is valued at N$43 500.
The man is due to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
On the same day, drug law enforcement officers also arrested a 31-year-old resident of Narraville in Walvis Bay for possession and dealing in illicit drugs after she was found with 325 grams of dagga valued at N$16 250.
The woman is set to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on the charges of possession and drug dealing on Monday.
On Thursday drug law enforcement officers arrested a 24-year-old man that had 190 grams of dagga in his possession.
The arrest was made at a house in the DRC informal settlement and the suspect will appear on the possession and dealing charges in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The 42-year-old Eugene Florie that was arrested at a house in Twahangana Street in Kuisebmond last Tuesday for dealing in 14 medium and 25 small bankies of dagga worth N$2 500 already made an appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court.
The matter served before court on Thursday and the accused person is set to enter a plea when he returns to court on Monday.
A 17-year-old boy, whose name is withheld because he is still a minor, and the 25-year-old Michelle Ngaema appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession and dealing in illicit drug after they were arrested at house number 3164 A in Langanda Street in the Tutaleni suburb of Walvis Bay.
The accused persons had six grams of dagga and two quarter pieces of a Mandrax tablet in their possession. The drugs are valued at N$300.
The accused persons appeared before the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and the matter was postponed to Wednesday to allow the police to do more investigation on the issue.
