FORMER Ohangwena Regional Governor, Usko Nghaamwa has given a scholarship to one of the top-performing learners at Omungwelume Secondary School during the 2020 academic year.
The 19-year-old Bertha Jacobus, who obtained 34 points and a B in English as a second language received a scholarship for funding her study until completion.
Jacobus was accepted for the faculty of education at the University of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus in Ongwediva.
Nghaamwa said despite not getting an education of his own he has made it his mission to assist well-performing learners that are financially challenged.
Nghaamwa said he was ready to pay full institution fees of N$47 000 and other fees required for the first year.
“I understand the value of an education and that is what prompted me to invest in the education of the learner in order to make a difference in the lives of others,” he said.
In her message of appreciation, Jacobus asked Nghaamwa to always give without remembering and receive without forgetting.
“It has always been my dream to become a proud learner of Omungwelume and ensure that I am able to go attend University of my own choice,” she said.
Jacobus is the first daughter in the family of 14 other siblings to have complete Grade 12 and will be furthering her study at the University.
