HEAVY rains in the catchment areas of the Huab and Hoarosib rivers in northwestern Namibia caused masses of water to start flowing to the Northern Namib Desert.
The torrents, however, did not reach the Atlantic Ocean yet.
Good showers over the areas of Khorixas and Kamanjab also brought relief to residents of the area earlier in the week.
Unlike the rest of Namibia, the five regions did not receive heavy showers since the beginning of the year.
However, heavy showers have been reported in areas such as Ondangwa and towns in the Ohangwena Region bordering on Angola.
Heavy rains were also reported in the area of Nkuernkuru in the Kavango West Region where up to 70 millimetres were measured at places during Tuesday night.
Further south in towns like Grootfontein, Tsumeb, Otavi, and Otjiwarongo also reported good rains.
Rain also started falling in Windhoek on Wednesday after clouds started building on Tuesday.
More rain was also reported to the east of Windhoek while places in the Namib Desert to the west of the capital also received rain for the first time this year.
Showers were also reported in the area of Keetmanshoop and Mariental in Southern Namibia on Wednesday.
In the meantime, the Namibia Meteorological Service warned that flash floods might occur in places on the central and northern coast of Namibia.
According to the weather service, widespread thundershowers will persist in the northern regions where flash floods can also be expected at times.
Residents of the areas that might be affected by flash floods are requested to take the necessary precautions.
Isolated thundershowers are in the forecast for parts of the country while widespread showers will occur in the northern regions.
At the coast, residents can expect partly cloudy and cool to warm weather conditions with some showers and thundershowers over the central and northern parts of the coast.
