BEAUTY Emmely Haimbili, an accountant in the employ of the Lewcor Group, was arrested in Walvis Bay after she was accused of embezzling N$11 million over a period of four years.
Haimbili made a brief appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and is charged with 18 counts of theft and fraud, as well as 18 counts of money laundering, forgery, as well as uttering.
The accused person was arrested on Wednesday and according to the Namibian Police’s report about the apprehension, the embezzlement of money that was supposed to be paid into her employer’s bank account started in 2016 and only ended in 2020 when the fraud was discovered.
Haimbili also stands accused of requesting payments from service providers to be paid into bank accounts she held, as well into other bank accounts of accomplices.
Besides channelling money to her own accounts, she also issued service providers to the company with falsified invoices.
According to the arrest report, none of the money she embezzled has been recovered.
During her appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court, the accused person was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed until 8 April.
