KOVIPENE Tjandja, an 85-year-old man, was the weekend declared dead following a scorpion bite at the Etoto west village on Friday evening.
Omusati Regional Commander Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the elderly man, however, only died a day after the sting as he opted to recuperate at home instead of immediately going to a health facility to get treatment.
“It is alleged that the deceased was stung by a scorpion on Friday evening while at home. He remained home until Saturday when his condition started deteriorating,” said Shikongo.
Shikongo noted that his family decided to take him to the Etoto clinic but that he unfortunately passed away before reaching the clinic.
The body was transported to the Outapi state hospital for an on-duty doctor to declare him dead, after which the body will be transported to the Okahao police mortuary for post mortem examination.
