THE possibility of more flash floods increased after a heavy rainstorm turned normally dry riverbeds in parts of Windhoek into raging torrents on Monday afternoon.
Residents of the various suburbs of the city had to find alternative routes home as rivers blocked roads and storm water gathered in low laying parts of the road in Mandume Ndemufayo Street and Frankie Fredericks Street, further blocking traffic.
The rainy conditions are expected to continue well into the week.
The Namibia Meteorological Service predicted widespread thundershowers over large parts of the Kavango, Zambezi, Otjozondjupa, Omaheke, Khomas, and Hardap regions.
Showers and thundershowers are expected to set in over the coastal areas from Tuesday.
The weather service urged people to take the necessary precautions against flash floods and to make sure that they are safe.
