AMIDST the current rampant spread of COVID-19, Namibian authorities will have the difficult task of deciding on whether children will be allowed to return to schools later this month.
The Executive Director of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, indicated the health ministry will be consulted on how school openings will proceed.
According to Steenkamp, consultations are set to start this week. She expressed concern that the current second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic might disrupt the plans set down for the education ministry to reopen schools.
She indicated that given the current situation a staggered restart of the different grades may be one of the options that will be discussed.
Steenkamp added that the education ministry will need additional funds for the procurement of masks and sanitisers.
