THE Onandjokwe hospital in Oshikoto Region has temporarily closed down its Shanamutango section due to the high number of COVID-19 cases that are being recorded inside that specific wing of the health facility.
The Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, confirmed the closure of the section and said that the decision was implemented on 27 December and that the section will remain closed for at least five days.
Nangombe indicated that most of the new cases were identified in that section of the hospital.
The closure of Shanamutango is aimed at enabling healthcare workers to be screened for COVID-19 and to disinfect the premises after two staff members tested positive for infection.
“Those patients that were being cared for in the closed down section of the hospital and who are in critical clinical condition will be managed in the casualty ward,” Nangombe said, adding that those on chronic medication will be assisted at the pharmacy.
