WIDESPREAD allegations of nepotism against Bonifatius Wakudumo, the governor of the Kavango East Region, are the reasons for a mass demonstration taking place at Rundu this afternoon.
The residents of the Kavango East Region were irked by still unconfirmed allegations that the governor has employed his biological son as the driver of his official vehicle and also employed an in-law as secretary.
One of the organisers of the protest, controversial Swapo Party “foot soldier”, Paulus Kalembera Simuku, also known as Kafu ka Namibia, said that the protesters are assembling at the Rundu sport stadium and then marching to the office of the governor to hand over a petition.
Governor Wakudumo was recently entangled in another controversy after he appointed a Namibian citizen of Chinese origin, Charlie Min Xie, as an exclusive adviser to the governor.
Wakudumo withdrew the appointment on Monday amid a noisy public outcry and questions about whether a governor possesses a legal competency to make such appointments.
