BUSINESSMAN Michael Amushelelo and his business partner, Gregory Cloete, pleaded not guilty when they made another court appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court for charges relating to money laundering.
The duo is also accused of running a banking business without authorisation, accepting money from the public for investment without being authorised to do so under the Banking Institutions Act and acquiring, possessing or using property forming part of the proceeds of unlawful activities.
Prosecutor General Martha Imalwa is set to make a decision on whether or not the duo will be tried in the high court when the matter returns to court on 31 May next year.
The duo reportedly received over N$17 million from members of the public, which is a violation of the Banking Institutions Act, and subsequently resulting in their arrest last year.
Amushelelo and Cloete are currently out on bail in the amount of N$35,000 each.
Defense Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo is representing the duo.
