A 65-year-old man from the Okayala village in the Oshikoto Region has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his eight-year-old grandchild at.
“It is alleged that the pensioner forcefully removed the little girl’s underwear and pulled it down to her knees before attempting to rape the child,” the regional police commander, Commissioner Armas Shivute said.
According to Commissioner Shivute, the victim was sent by her grandmother to go and call her grandfather at his house that is situated some distance away from the child’s home.
“It was only later that the family realized that this was the second attempt by the grandfather to rape his granddaughter. The grandmother told the family that she caught the old man red-handed on a previous occasion,” he said.
Shivute noted that the suspect is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrates Court on a charge of attempted rape on Monday.
