A SECONDARY school in Oshakati remained the focal point of a large cluster transmission after 17 more learners tested positive for COVID-19.
The Minister of Health and Social Service, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula announced the latest COVID9 statistics the new cases at the Oshakati Secondary School are all contacts of cases that were confirmed earlier this week. He added that the cluster transmission was also detected in the Oluno Correctional facility where three more inmates tested positive.
According to the health minister 48 people out of a test batch of 1 255 had positive results and that 18 of those are from Windhoek, 17 from Oshakati, four from Engela, two each from Tsumeb and Swakopmund, and person each from Omuthiya, Gobabis, Mariental, Otjiwarongo, and Rundu.
He said the cases in Windhoek are spread over a variety of neighbourhoods and cannot be linked to any clusters at this stage.
Dr. Shangula also announced the recovery of 59 people. He said 53 are from the Khomas Region while the Erongo, Karas, and Zambezi regions registered two recoveries each.
No new COVID-19 related fatalities were announced and the death toll in Namibia remained at 131.
