PLEAS to end Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Namibia appear to be falling on deaf ears as a 19-year-old girl from Gobabis was drugged and raped at the start of the weekend.
According to the Namibian police crime bulletin, the incident happened on Friday, 9 October, at around 15:00 at Rakutuka, Epako.
It is alleged that the 19-year-old girl was raped by a 34-year-old Namibian male while she was under the influence of alcohol and a date rape drug.
It is alleged that the suspect secretly slipped a tablet into the teenager’s drink, which led to her vomiting and slipping into unconsciousness.
It is further alleged that after she passed out, she was carried into a sleeping room by friends she was drinking with.
During this time, it is alleged that the suspect left the group gathered in another room and went to the bedroom where the victim was sleeping and raped her.
The suspect was arrested and police investigations continue.
In another case of rape on Friday, 9 October 2020, at 13:00 at Oufa waHelia village in Outapi, it is alleged that a 25-year-old Namibian man raped a 9-year-old girl.
