AS Namibian youths are preparing for another day of protesting against the soaring cases of gender-based violence and femicide in the country, the Omusati police is reporting that a 31-year-old man brutally murdered his girlfriend and mother of his two children at Uuhongo village.
The suspect, Johannes Venick Kaluwa, reportedly slit the throat of 27-year-old Gwashiti Ndahambelela Tomas before killing himself by hanging.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the incident occurred around 13:20 yesterday at the Onesi Constituency.
According to Shikongo, Kaluwa used an unknown object to cut his girlfriend’s throat.
“The victim also sustained deep open cuts on her left wrist,” he said.
Shikongo pointed out that the deceased’s body was found lying in a pool of blood in an open space by a passerby who was coming from the cuca shops.
“It is further alleged that the suspect, together with the victim, passed through a certain house at around 12:45 heading to nearby cuca shops where the woman was supposed to be plaited by her friend,” he said.
Two hours later the discovery of the victim’s body, Kaluwa lifeless body was found hanging from a tree by children who were coming from school.
Kaluwa’s body was discovered about a kilometre from the murder scene.
“The motive for committing such a heinous crime is not yet established. No suicide note was left behind,” he said.
The deceaseds’ bodies were transported to the Okahao police mortuary for postmortem.
Police investigations continue.
