PRESIDENT Hage Geingob today applauded teachers for leading during the vulnerable time that is the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that they deserve full praise.
Today marks the commemoration of World Teachers Day and the day is this year celebrated under the theme, ‘Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.’
“I commend our teachers and educators for imparting knowledge and molding ethical citizens who can contribute to the national development of nation-building. As a former teacher, I am fully conscious of the difficult role teachers play in building better communities. Teachers cannot perform the role of molding ethical citizens alone. They need assistance and deserve respect in the communities in which they serve. I wish our teachers and educators a Happy Teachers Day,” Geingob said in a statement.
Teachers Day is since 1994 held annually on 5 October to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers.
