THE young elephant that was darted to remove a wire snare from its leg earlier this week has reunited with its mother and is well on its way to recovery.

After an extended search the calf, which is estimated to be between two and three-years-old was finally tracked down, darted, and treated by a veterinarian.

Romeo Muyunda, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, reported that during a follow-up action, game wardens observed that the calf was back on its feet and reunited with its mother.

“We are optimistic about the young elephant’s recovery,” Muyunda said.
