AN investigation has been launched into the deaths of 16 buffaloes that were found floating in the Kwando River near the well-known Namushasha Lodge.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Romeo Muyunda, confirmed that the carcasses of the dead animals were found floating in the river in the Zambezi Region on Wednesday.
The Buffaloes are suspected to have drowned possibly while fleeing from predators on Tuesday.
Muyunda said the environment ministry has commissioned an investigation into the matter.
He indicated that tissue and blood samples were collected from the dead animals on Friday which will be analyzed to check for a possible breakout of a deadly bovine disease.
