THE 28-year-old Shilongo Shilongo died after defending his sister who was being attacked by a mentally unstable man.
According to the Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo the deceased person and his sister were walking home from nearby shebeens when a man suspected to be mentally unwell started chasing the woman.
“The deceased noticed what was happening and tried to intervene and rescue his sister. The suspect suddenly turned on Shilongo and stabbed him with a knife in the left side of his chest,” said Shikongo.
Shilongo was taken to the Oshikuku Catholic Hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to his wound while in the Intensive Care Unit.
The attacker was arrested.
In a separate incident, a mentally unstable man entered the house of the 45-year-old Rauha Nahole while she was alone at home. The suspect attacked the woman with a knife before setting the house on fire.
Oshikoto Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Armas Shivute said the woman sustained deep wounds on her head and neck and was unable to escape from the burning house.
He said members of the community rescued the woman from the burning house but that she sustained burn wounds all over her body.
“Attempts were made to transport the severely injured woman to the clinic at Onyaanya but she succumbed to her injuries before reaching the healthcare centre,” he said.
The suspect in this case was also arrested.
