PARENTS are urged to constantly educate their children about the dangers the water poses to their lives.
This follows after two children both aged seven allegedly fell into the water pond and drowned instantly at Okapuku village of Elim Constituency in the Omusati region of Friday.
Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the incident occurred at around 16:00 on Saturday.
He identified the deceased as Andreas Bernard and Grugord Mandume both from the Okapuku village.
According to him, three boys from three different houses took the cattle to a nearby water pond to drink.
“One of the minor after witnessing the incident then ran back home to inform the parents who upon arrival only retrieved the bodies from the water,” he said.
Shikongo indicated that the exact circumstances which caused the kids to fall into the water are still being probed.
He stated that the deceased bodies are kept at Oshikuku Hospital mortuary awaiting further transportation to Okahao Police mortuary for post mortem. Investigations continue.
Shikongo cautioned parents to stop sending kids to the open water places unaccompanied as these incidents are on the increase in the region.
