SEVEN years ago, Edward Immanuel made headlines when he was arrested on a charge of rape.
The 30-year-old revivalist pastor is now a free man. The prosecution has failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case dates from 2013 when Immanuel was the pastor of the Apostolic Church in the Olulongo village in the Oshana Region.
It was alleged that the pastor, who was aged 23 at the time, raped a female parishioner who was three years younger.
He was arrested a day after the alleged incident, appeared in court, and was eventually granted bail of N$1,000.
The case dragged on for years, but on 1 September this year, regional magistrate L.N. Hangalo of Oshakati declared Immanuel “not guilty”.
Immanuel was represented by Simson Aingura of the Aingura Attorneys, while the State was represented by prosecutor Nelao Ya France.
