No COVID death reported

FOR the first time in more than a month, health authorities in Namibia have not reported a single COVID-19 related fatality.

 

Ben Nangombe, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, while announcing that the country has registered 191 new cases and that 32 people were declared recovered, did not report any COVID-19 related fatalities.

 

With regard to the people that were declared recovered, Nangombe said that 24 people are from the Khomas Region and eight from the Omusati Region.

 

Those that were admitted to health facilities were discharged and allowed to go home.

 

The new recoveries brought the cumulative number of recoveries to 3 643.

 

He added that 191 new cases were registered in Namibia over the past 24 hours.

 

Of the new cases, 99 are males and 92 are females.

 

The youngest patient is a one year-old baby and the oldest is a 92-year-old pensioner.

 

At 87, Windhoek registered the majority of new cases, while 17 new cases were registered in Keetmanshoop, 14 in Walvis Bay, 13 in Rundu, nine in Mariental, seven in Tsumeb, six in Usakos, five in Oshakati, four in Gobabis, three each in Omaruru, Rehoboth, Otjiwarongo, Okahandja and Engela, two each in Swakopmund, Karasburg, Okakarara, Oshikuku and Outapi, and one each in Lüderitz, Onandjokwe, Opuwo and Katima Mulilo.

 

“In addition to the Erongo, Khomas, Karas, Hardap and Oshana regions, the five regions where the majority of cases continue to be reported, we have observed a rapid increase in the number of new cases from the Ohangwena, Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto and Zambezi regions,” Nangombe said.

 

The number of severe and critical patients has also decreased significantly and only 16 are currently in high and intensive care facilities in hospitals in the Khomas and Erongo regions.
