A 41-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for arson after he burned down six huts of his family’s traditional homestead at the Omatwadiva Village in the Okalongo constituency.
Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the incident occurred at around 12:55 on Sunday.
Shikongo said that the suspect, who is the son of the owner of the house, was quarrelling with a domestic worker before he started the fire. The suspect’s mother intervened in defence of the domestic worker which caused him to get angry and to take revenge.
“After the intervention of the mother, the suspect went to the traditional kitchen and took a log from a burning fire and set six traditional huts on fire,” he said.
Shikongo pointed out that all the rooms were completely destroyed including properties such as; blankets, clothes, and important documents.
“No life was lost or injuries sustained during the incident, but the suspect was arrested and a criminal case of arson was registered at the Onandjamba Police Station,” said Shikongo.
