President set to brief nation on COVID-19

Staff Reporter

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob will address the nation on the latest government decisions regarding the State of Emergency and the COVID-19 pandemic from State house at 15:00 on Friday.

Geingob is expected to give an update about the stricter restrictive measures currently in effect under Stage 3, especially the lockdown of the six local authority areas of Windhoek, Rehoboth, Okahandja, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Arandis.

The President will also communicate Cabinet decisions about other national response measures.

In the wake of a sharp spike in new COVID-19 cases specifically in Windhoek, the entire Namibia regressed back to Stage 3 two weeks ago.

Since cases in Windhoek showed a sharp increase, new cases countrywide also started to show a sharp upward trend.

The address is set to start at 15:00 and will be broadcast live from the Situation Room at State House.
