AN urgent investigation was launched to determine the cause of death of the 100-year-old Melania Akundungila whose lifeless body was found hanging from the roof of the hut at a traditional homestead near the Ombwana Village over the weekend.
Members of the community in the Okalongo constituency of the Omusati region is doubting the cause of the old woman’s death and are asking what might have triggered her to take her own life.
Omusati Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, confirmed the old woman’s death and said the incident occurred during Saturday night. He added that she did not leave a suicide note.
“It is alleged that the deceased person was last seen on Saturday evening. Her lifeless body was found the next morning hanging in a room which is not the one she usually sleeps in. She had a piece of clothing that was tied to the roof around her neck,” he said.
Shikongo noted that the body was taken to the Oshikuku hospital and from there t was transported to the Okahao police mortuary where a post mortem examination will be performed to determine the old woman’s actual cause of death.
