CHAOS erupted in the council chambers of the City of Windhoek (CoW) after social media started a fire storm about a secret meeting aimed at rubberstamping a deal with Huawei to install their 5G network in the capital.
Huawei in Windhoek immediately denied any such an agreement and said that if and when their 5G network is installed, it will be done in accordance with the regulations laid down by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN)
Opposition Councilors from the PDM and LPM during a shouting match threatened each other with criminal charges and charges relating to the contravention of State of Emergency regulation governing public meetings.
The PDM councillor Ignatius Semba, who already laid charges against senior members of Swapo for attending the party’s 60th birthday celebrations at Parliament and who also took legal action against the CoW’s decision to extend the appointment of the City Police Chief, Abraham Kanime, informed the meeting that he will proceed criminally against the council as well.
The Namibian Police could however not confirm if such a case has been registered yet.
