JULIUS Neumbo, who served as the Otjiwarongo constituency councillor, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on the road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo earlier Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division confirmed the passing of the regional councillor and said the crash occurred approximately 40 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo.
According to an incident report, Neumbo and his wife were travelling between Otjiwarongo and Okanhandja with a government vehicle when the crash occurred.
It is alleged that the vehicle driven by Neumbo was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. One of the vehicles that were involved in the initial impact then went on to collide with a heavy truck transporting cattle.
The cattle truck overturned and several animals were killed and some other was injured as a result. Some of the injured animals had to be euthanized on the spot.
Members of the emergency services had to use the Jaws of Life to remove the late constituency councillor’s wife, who was trapped in the wreck of the government vehicle.
She and the occupants of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries and were all transported to the hospital in Otjiwarongo.
