Man escapes from custody in Ongwediva

THE Namibian Police Force in Oshana Region has launched a manhunt after 27 year old Simeon Paulus escaped from the police cells at Ongwediva by simply running away from officers after the opened the doors to feed the prisoners.


Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Public Relation Division in the region said that the suspect was arrested on Sunday on charges of house breaking.


“The suspect escaped from custody after the cell was opened with the intention to feed the inmates,” said Aiyambo.

According to him, Paulus was arrested in the early hours of Sunday on a charge of house breaking with the intent to steal after a spate of burglaries at houses in Ongwediva.


“All attempt to stop the suspect from running were fruitless and the suspect is still at large,” noted Aiyambo.


He stated that currently no information where Paulus came from and where he is might be going are known.


Aiyambo appealed to the public to assist the police, with any information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect. He requested any person with information to report it to the nearest police station.
