BERNHARD Esau made a public statement today in which he said that he has been aware of a sustained media campaign against himself as the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources and this campaign has been continuing for some time and contains allegations of corrupt practices associated with his duties as a Minister.
Esau went on record and said that he is not corrupt and will never condone corruption anywhere.
“No one has presented me with any evidence of monies or favours that I, Bernhard Esau, received from anyone in exchange for my duties as a Minister and no one has demonstrated any quid pro quo promises written or otherwise which I may have made to anyone in the course of undertaking my duties as a minister.”
He added however that since the media campaigns against him are now directed at the SWAPO Party and the candidature of His Excellency President Hage Geingob, he has asked the President to allow him to step aside and be released from his responsibilities as a Cabinet Minister with immediate effect to allow for credible investigations on this matter.
“I hope that those who wish to use this as a campaign matter can look for other alternatives,” said Mr Esau.
He ended his statement by saying that he will remain committed to the development and empowerment of all Namibians now and forever.
