THE drivers of two vehicles involved in a head-on collision on the B2 road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund miraculously survived the accident.
According to Warrant Officer Ileni Shapumba, commander of community affairs of the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region the crash occurred at about 21:00 on Saturday evening. The collision occurred between Afrodite Beach and Dolphin Beach residential areas along the B2 Road.
“The actual cause of the crash is still being investigated because no one besides the two drivers witnessed the crash. Because no independent witness statement could be obtained they are blaming each other for driving on the wrong side of the road,” Warrant Officer Szhapumba said.
He said the drivers were alone in their vehicles when the crash occurred.
“The fact that both survived the crash is a wonder. They were transported to hospital. One of the drivers was already discharged but the second driver is still admitted with back injuries,” he said.
Members of the emergency service of Walvis Bay who attended the scene had to direct traffic past the accident scene and clear the wreckage from the road after the injured drivers were taken to hospital.
