THE little girl and the two adults who died on the scene of a crash between a minibus and a heavy transport truck near Otavi were identified as the five-year-old Sylvia Mekulilo Stefanus, the 32-year-old Leena Tuwilika Kasino and the 36-year-old Hofeni Uhanda.
According to the spokesperson for the Namibian Police in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, none of the other people that were travelling from the coast towards northern Namibia has died as result of the crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. She referred to the five passengers that were critically injured as a result of the crash.
Inspector Mbeha said the initial investigation into the fatal crash that occurred approximately 30 kilometres outside Otavi, indicates that the driver of the minibus attempted to overtake the slower moving heavy transport truck but he allegedly swerved back into his lane after observing and oncoming vehicle approaching at high speed.
Uhanda, who was driving the bus, was forced to swerve back to his own lane behind the truck to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle and crashed into the back of the truck which resulted in his own death and that of the little girl and the young woman.
