THE communities of Epembe and Oshikunde in the Ohangwena Region are soon to get clean water for consumption, following years of making use of water unfit for consumption.
Minister of Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta, on Monday visited the two communities to assess the progress made so far to provide potable water to the communities.
According to Shifeta, the two communities were severely affected by the prevailing drought, leaving many of the people consuming unfit water.
“The aim of my visit is to assess the progress made so far, where the Environment Investment Fund is rehabilitating and drilling boreholes for the community,” said Shifeta.
He stated that he was happy to have observed that in a space of two weeks 15 kilometre has been covered by people laying a pipe and already three water points are completed and functional.
“The water will be provided for the communities in Oshidute, Omwii and Ohakafiya,” he said, adding that three more water point is expected to be completed soon.
Minister Shifeta noted that it is estimated that the project will have the capacity to provide portable water to about 7 500 people.
