THE Omusati Region will this year host the national commemoration of World Food Day (WFD) under the theme: “Our Actions are Our Future. Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World”.
Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, Percy Misika in a statement said WFD marks the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on 16 October 1945, with the purpose of combatting world hunger and creating awareness about global food problems.
“Achieving Zero Hunger is not only about addressing hunger, but also nourishing people, while nurturing the planet,” he said.

Misika stated that this year’s WFD commemoration calls for action across sectors to make healthy and sustainable diets accessible and affordable to everyone, at the same time it calls on people to start thinking on what to eat.
In order to combat world hunger and raising awareness on world food challenges, promoting unity and strengthening solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty MAWF called on private sectors and government institution to join in the celebration.
Regional Chairperson Modestus Amutse, told Informanté that the preparations for the event are underway, and they are busy mobilizing the public to join in coming to celebrate the day.
“The venue has already been established. Officials from regional and local government level are involved,” said Amuste.
The day was commemorated in the Kavango region last year.
