Teko Trio acquitted

THE accused persons in the Teko trial, former Public Service Commission Teckla Lameck and her business partners, Kongo Mokaxwa and Yang Fan, were all today acquitted on all 18 fraud and corruption charges by Judge Christie Liebenberg in the high court.
During a brief interview with the acquitted persons, all said they are relieved and saddened, by the fact that it took more than a decade for the high profile trial to conclude.
“After so many years, to be specific, 11 years of suffering, I am grateful. I cannot express the joy I feel,” Yang said.
Mokaxwa said his reputation was ruined.

“I’m sad. It was malicious. Why would you hold me in court for 11 years? I’m still very young and I could have achieved a lot but my reputation was tainted. I’ve lost my integrity and my family’s reputation was also ruined. I want to call out the Prosecutor General herself,” he said.
Mokaxwa said the PG, Martha Imalwa, recently made a statement that she would not prosecute people without prima facie evidence.
“That did not keep her from keeping us tied up in court for 11 years,” Mokaxwa complained.
Lameck simply said that she was happy.
“Justice was served,” said Lameck.
The trio was in 2009 accusing of defrauding the finance ministry through a multi-million dollar transaction in which the Namibian Government bought security scanners from China at inflated prices.
